Our Book Discussion series for winter/spring 2024 is "Beyond the Sea."

Our May 2024 title is Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.

Van Pelt's whimsical and heart-warming debut novel follows Tova Sullivan, a recent widow who copes with her grief by taking a job at the Sowell Bay Aquarium working the night shift. A giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus, who frequently escapes his enclosure in search of live snacks, is rescued by Tova, and the two become friends. Tova still grieves the disappearance of her son 30 years later, but the perceptive cephalopod, with nine brains and three hearts and an urgency to help, thinks he can figure out what happened.
